No matter what we’re talking about on any given week, getting people registered to vote is a big priority. That can be done online, or at your local town office. Making the commitment to get out and vote is in no way trivial. If you aren’t registered, get on that.
Jason, Jay, and I were joined by Steve Onesco. Steve wants to run for mayor of New Haven. He will be chatting with possible Republican gubernatorial candidates to gain their support. It will be hard to win the larger election without CT cities, and many people there do not vote. In New Haven, the last mayoral election had only a 10% turnout.
New Haven is dead last in the state for education, but #1 for crime and fentanyl overdoses. The police are wildly over-burdened, and the 30% poverty rate isn’t going to change without some law and order, not to mention education.
The biggest need for CT Common Sense right now is for volunteers to help with data management and entry. We need points of contact in each town. We also need attorneys who are willing to take a stand because at some point we’re going to have to raise funds, and that requires a legal entity.
We’ll be meeting again in a couple of weeks, and have a larger meeting planned for late April in Glastonbury or Vernon. [time and location to be determined]
In the mean time, we’re growing and connecting with other groups in CT. This newsletter is one way we’re doing that, and there’s a podcast in the works for April. You can help by sharing the newsletter link, ctcommonsense.substack.com, an by contributing to it. Your voice is what makes this work.
We need people to write commentary on CT news. The usual outlets dominate the message and fail to ask the right questions. We need personal stories both on how the state messed with your life, and how much you love it here and why. We need funny CT memes, because humor is fundamental to change. Mocking the absurdity of our elected officials lays their nonsense bare.
Most of all, just talk to people. We want to make things better here.
We want better education, lower energy costs, more business, safe streets, and lower taxes. We don’t get there without you. Your action matters. Send us a message to tell us how you want to help.
