Things have been happening here at CT Common Sense!
In case you haven’t heard yet, Jason Douglas did a Hail Mary run at the chairmanship of the CT GOP. He didn’t win [obviously] but the experience was enlightening and highly informative. Jason learned first hand how the CT GOP makes sure the incumbents stay in power. He was to be nominated from the floor, and those who were to nominate him were swapped out with proxies. There was no one else nominated. No we don’t know who those proxies were or where they came from. Given the story we got from the Virgin Islands GOP, they could have been from anywhere.
Republican Party highjinks in the Virgin Islands
Todd Hecht and his wife worked hard to get the Republican party in the Virgin Islands only to have it ripped away with Ben Proto delivering the bad news. Todd tells a cautionary tale of how a few people with selfish intentions can make a mess for a large group trying to do the best for their community.
The big criticism was that he didn’t start his attempt early enough. Considering we didn’t know the chairman could be nominated from the floor until May, [Yes, we had the bylaws] Jason did fine. The second biggest criticism was that he had no experience.
Uh, guys? “Experience” got us a super majority of Democrats.
Willful Blindness. Or many on State Central are benefiting from their position in some way.
We have a Cold War for control of our institutions.
What other possible conclusion can we draw? Being on State Central incurs personal costs. That makes it tough for ordinary people to take up that responsibility. Democrats have already done their level best to make sure that ANY involvement in governance become the exclusive purview of people with existing wealth. It is the nature of any position of power that it comes with increased insider information. Not everyone gets corrupted by this.
But some certainly do.
We are protesting this election because even though Jason doesn’t think he wants to run again, we want a transparent process in the future!
YOU can help! Copy, fill in your details, print and mail the letters in the links below, ideally via certified or registered mail. The CT GOP need to know they’re being watched. This creates an incentive to change.
A letter of general complaint to the CT GOP
A letter to the CT GOP demanding details of the election procedures
A letter to the Chairmen Whatley of the RNC requesting intervention and accountability
Either way, the dedicated, principled, party members need help. So we are officially launching CT Common Sense.
We will contact well-attended and organized RTCs and find out what they’re doing that works. How do they contact people? How do they maintain their membership?
Have small events that include a short, informative presentation and social time for conservatives to talk and know they aren’t alone. This will have the benefit of empowering people and giving them some positive feelings. [Which we ALL need these days] Such events can be done inexpensively and will be a primary recruiting tool.
Target districts that need to consolidate a hold on Republican seats and do postcard, doorknocking, and calls to get out the vote for MAGA candidates, especially in the primaries where the current party leadership is working against us.
Spread our efforts into flipable towns.
To quote Newt Gingrich, winning takes cheerful persistence!
We are still deciding what tax structure to use [it won’t be a PAC] and are looking into membership organizations.
Have you been to your local RTC meeting? Please tell us about it! Could you host a gathering? Or know a good location? Let us know in the comments!
No matter what we’re talking about on any given week, getting people registered to vote is a big priority. That can be done online, or at your local town office. Making the commitment to get out and vote is in no way trivial. If you aren’t registered, get on that.
